Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated across the United States on the fourth Thursday in November. The holiday marks a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and offers the opportunity to reminisce over the previous year. The holiday is additionally celebrated in countries including Canada, Liberia and Grenada.
In the United States, the first Thanksgiving is linked to the feast held in 1621* by the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag, which marks the colony's first successful harvest. Thanksgiving Day holiday was then proclaimed by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War in 1863**, to mark the day of ‘Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens’.
In modern times, the national holiday is an occasion to give thanks, to pray and to spend time with family. Thanksgiving Day celebrations include street parades, an abundance of American Football games and the all-important shared family feast. Traditional drink flavours often combine refreshing fruits, such as cranberry and apple***, with winter spices such as cinnamon and star anise.
To mark this special occasion, we think our ‘Dutch Trading Punch’ sharing cocktail is the perfect way to celebrate with family, friends and loved ones.
